What Is the Pairing Bear Extension?#

Pairing Bear is an extension for automatically matching products on Heureka.cz and Heureka.sk. Its main function is to correctly assign products to the right categories and match them to existing product cards. For products that cannot be matched automatically via EAN, Pairing Bear provides recommendations for adjusting the product name or category so they can be matched at a later stage.

The extension works by matching EAN codes and uses data from the product matching report generated by Heureka. Correctly matched products rank higher in Heureka search results than standalone listings, leading to better positions, greater visibility for your online store, and ultimately higher conversions.

The extension is ideal for:

  • Online stores and marketing agencies that manage hundreds or thousands of products and want to save hours of manual matching work.

Pricing and Billing#

The extension is priced at:

  • EUR 12 per month with monthly billing,
  • EUR 9.60 per month with annual billing.

The price applies to one project in Mergado and is fixed, regardless of the total number of products in the project or the number of matched products.

Due to technical dependencies, the extension is billed in line with the billing frequency selected in Mergado Editor. Different billing frequencies cannot be set for individual services.

The Pairing Bear extension comes with a 30-day free trial.

Key Concepts in Pairing Bear#

  • Matching – The process of correctly assigning a product to the right Heureka category and linking it to an existing product card.
  • Product card – A page in the Heureka catalogue that groups offers for the same product from multiple sellers. Products matched to a card rank higher in search results than standalone listings.
  • EAN code – An international article number that serves as the primary identifier for automatically matching a product to a product card in Pairing Bear.
  • Unmatched products report – A CSV file generated by Heureka that lists your products for which the comparison engine recommends adjusting the product name or category to enable successful matching.
  • PPC mode – A paid mode on Heureka that is a prerequisite for matching products and downloading the required data reports.
  • PRODUCT element – An element in the XML feed whose value Pairing Bear modifies (for example, by adding the name from the product card) to ensure future matching on Heureka’s side.

Requirements for Running Pairing Bear#

  • A Mergado Editor account and an active project set up for advertising on Heureka.
  • Your online store in PPC mode on Heureka, which is required to generate and download the necessary data reports.
  • Correctly filled-in EAN codes in your product XML feed.
  • Report URLs from Heureka — specifically the Unmatched Products Report and optionally the Products Awaiting Classification report. Alternatively, you can create a connection between Mergado and Heureka in the Mergado Keychain extension.

Key Features#

  • Automatic matching by EAN – Pairing Bear bulk-assigns products to the correct categories based on matching EAN codes and prepares a list of suggested pairs. If you want to exclude some pairs, simply uncheck the green tick on the left side of the pairs list.
  • Name and category adjustment recommendations – For products that cannot be matched, Pairing Bear suggests changes to the PRODUCTNAME or CATEGORYTEXT elements so Heureka can correctly identify and classify the product.
  • Bulk actions and filters – Supports bulk matching or unmatching of filtered products. You can filter by matching status or price, and also filter products with manually changed elements. Items can be sorted by name, category, price, or the date products were added.
  • High performance – The extension is built to handle even large feeds with a high number of products without any issues.
  • Import history – An overview of all uploaded data and the number of imported items.
  • PRODUCT element settings – Choose how the value for this element should be generated (for example, whether to keep the original name and append the name from the product card).

How to Activate Pairing Bear#

Activate the extension in Mergado Store: I want to activate → select the project you want to enable the extension for → Activate.

After activation, a simple wizard guides you through the initial setup. During this setup, you need to enter the URL of the Unmatched Products Report.

You can find it in your Heureka account admin. Go to the Product Matching section and select Unmatched Products Report. Right-click the Download button and choose Copy link address.

Keep in mind that PPC mode is essential for reports to be generated and work correctly. Without it, Heureka does not generate unmatched product reports, and Pairing Bear will not be able to function properly.

Go back to Pairing Bear’s setup and paste the copied URL into the Unmatched Products Report field.

Optionally, you can also enter the URL of the Products Awaiting Classification report. Find it in your Heureka admin under Product MatchingProducts Awaiting Classification.

An alternative to entering URLs manually is to create a connection between Mergado and Heureka in the Mergado Keychain extension. Simply enter your Heureka admin credentials there — no need to copy and paste report URLs into Pairing Bear.

Next, choose how Pairing Bear should generate the value for the PRODUCT element, which is central to product matching. You have four options:

  • The PRODUCT element is overwritten with the PRODUCTNAME value
  • The PRODUCTNAME value is appended to the original PRODUCT element value, separated by a dash
  • The PRODUCTNAME value is prepended to the original PRODUCT element value, separated by a dash
  • The original value of the PRODUCT element remains unchanged

Finally, choose whether you want Pairing Bear to automatically match new products from the downloaded report (the relevant checkbox will already be ticked in the extension).

After this initial setup, Pairing Bear automatically downloads the data and suggests pairs. Products with a matching EAN will have the matching option ticked automatically.

Remember that for changes to take effect on Heureka, you need to have the URL of the output feed from your Mergado project set in your Heureka admin.

Working in Pairing Bear#

Most of your work in Pairing Bear takes place on two main pages: Products and Categories. The extension is designed to handle as much as possible automatically while still giving you full control over the final matching.

Product Management and Matching#

The Products page shows a list of items that Heureka has identified as unmatched.

  • Number of products displayed – The extension only shows products included in the Unmatched Products Report. If your online store has 15,000 products but you only see 800 in Pairing Bear, that is not an error — it means the remaining products have already been successfully matched by Heureka or have no suggestions.
  • Automatic match suggestions – For products where a match was found based on the EAN code, Pairing Bear automatically prepares a match suggestion. Such a product has a green tick checked on the left side.
  • Manual pair editing – You can manually match or unmatch individual products by checking or unchecking the tick icon next to the suggested pair.
  • Bulk actions – Use the buttons for bulk matching or unmatching of all currently filtered products to speed up your work.
  • Link to the online store – Each product includes a link to view it directly in your online store for quick reference.

Advanced Filtering and Sorting#

Filtering and sorting are especially valuable in large projects where you need a systematic approach. Filter the products first, then sort the results to verify that the suggested pairs are correct and compare them with the actual state of your online store.

How to filter and sort products:

  • By matching status – Show only matched, unmatched, or all products.
  • By changes – Filter newly added products or those where you have manually changed elements.
  • By price – Filter items with a similar or different price. You can also use a filter based on the percentage tolerance of the price difference compared to the Heureka product card.
  • By data – Sort products from newest, cheapest, or most expensive, by name (PRODUCTNAME), or by category (CATEGORYTEXT).

Category Management#

The Categories page lets you manage how products are assigned to Heureka’s category tree. This is especially important when Heureka’s report suggests a category that no longer exists or has been removed — without correcting it, matching for those products would fail.

  • Custom categories – Set custom categories for specific groups of products.
  • Fixing non-existent categories – If Heureka suggests a category in its report that no longer exists or is incorrect, you can update it here to the correct value.

Reports, Overviews, and Technical Information#

Pairing Bear provides several tools for checking the current status and import history:

  • Import history – The History tab shows an overview of all imports, including the date, time, and number of imported items. This overview is essential for verifying whether the Unmatched Products Report downloaded successfully and whether it contained any data to match.
  • Colour price indicator – In the product list, you see your price (left) and the price range on the Heureka product card (right). When you use the price filter, the extension colour-codes whether your price falls within the set tolerance (green) or is out of range (red).
  • Count updates – The overview showing the number of matched and unmatched products updates dynamically in the extension’s interface after every match or unmatch action.
  • Updates and regeneration – To keep the data in the extension up to date, use the button for a manual report update directly from Heureka.

It should contain the exact product name from the PRODUCTNAME element and optionally supplementary information, such as the availability of in-store pickup. You have four options: the PRODUCT element is overwritten with the PRODUCTNAME value; the PRODUCTNAME value is appended to the original PRODUCT element (with a dash); it is prepended (with a dash); or the original content remains unchanged.
