Template for the Main Image#

A template is the basic building block of Feed Image Editor. It defines what edits should be made to product images, which product query they should be applied to, what the output format should be, and when they should be active. All bulk image processing in Feed Image Editor happens through templates.

Template types#

Feed Image Editor offers basic template types based on the kind of edit:

  1. Graphic template – adds graphic layers, effects, or other visual edits.

  2. Remove background – removes the background from product images.

  3. Enhance resolution – upscales small or pixelated images using AI.

  4. Watermark removal – removes watermarks from images in bulk based on a marked sample.

  5. Outpainting – fills in missing parts of an image when changing the format, using generative AI.

  6. Inpainting – removes a recurring element (logo, label) marked on a reference image.

  7. Visual similarity – finds and assigns visually similar products from the feed to each product.

Note: Choosing a specific template type (e.g., Remove background or Enhance resolution) automatically activates the smart AI feature tied to that type. However, if you find during your work that you need a different kind of edit, you don’t have to create the whole template again. You can change the template type and its behavior in the editor at any time while working, and your existing settings and product queries will be preserved.

How to create a template#

1. Choose a template type#

In the extension, select the template type based on the edit you want to make.

2. Set the product query#

Determine which products the template applies to. The product query can be prepared directly in Mergado or in Feed Image Editor, and can be specified by image parameters, such as background color, orientation, or quality.

3. Choose the output format#

Choose a format matching the advertising system you are preparing images for. If the format you need is not in the preset offer, you can set original or custom dimensions.

4. Configure the edits#

Configure the specific parameters of the chosen edit, such as background removal sensitivity, graphic layers, effects, or layout.

5. Schedule the activity#

Choose whether the template should run permanently or only for a specific period. Short-term campaigns can be scheduled in advance in the calendar. The extension activates and deactivates the template automatically at the set time.

6. Name and save#

Enter a name for the template and click Save. Under this name, the template appears in the list of templates together with a brief summary of its settings.

What happens after saving#

The template is placed into the template hierarchy, and it applies to the assigned product query the next time processing runs. You can check the results at any time on the Previews page. The template can be edited, deactivated, or deleted at any time.

FAQ#

Do I have to create a template again for every advertising system?#

Not necessarily. If you want to use the same template across multiple outputs or projects, you can export it as a file and import it.

Can I prepare a template in advance and only run it on a specific day?#

Yes. In the template settings, you can use the Activity Scheduler to set an activation and deactivation date and time. The template will then turn on and off automatically, with no manual action needed. This is useful, for example, for seasonal campaigns or sales.

How many templates can be active at the same time?#

In practice, you can have multiple templates active at once, each applying to its own product query according to the configured hierarchy. There is currently no limit on the maximum number of templates. However, only one template is ever applied to any given product.

How do I know which products a template has processed?#

You can check the processing results on the Previews page. It shows the edited versions of images for products from the assigned query. Any discrepancies can be resolved by adjusting the template settings and reprocessing.

What happens if I delete a template?#

Deleting a template stops any further image processing based on its settings. Images already generated in the output feed remain available until they are regenerated or the cache expires.
