Element EAN#
Basic information#
The EAN element contains the numeric code identifying the product.
Heureka supports EAN-13, which consists of 13 digits.
Frequently asked questions#
- Is the EAN code required for products?
- No, except for advertising in the following Heureka categories: Books, Textbooks, Maps and Guides, Films, Music, and Comics, where EAN is mandatory.
- Is EAN used on Heureka for pairing products into product cards?
- It is not used directly for pairing itself, but Heureka generates an unmatched products report in which it suggests products for pairing based on matching EAN codes.
- What if I manufacture products myself and do not have an EAN?
- You can obtain your own EAN code by registering with an EAN issuing service. Basic information is available in our article What is an EAN code and where is it useful?.
- Can I hide products with a missing EAN in Mergado?
- Yes. Create a query to find such products and apply the Hide product rule to it. You can also use the pre-built automation Hide products with a missing EAN code, which will do it for you.
- Can I find products with an invalid EAN in the feed? (e.g. wrong length or containing non-numeric characters)
- Yes, using our pre-built automation that you simply run — it creates a query of products where the EAN does not have the correct length or contains non-numeric characters. The automation is named Find products with an invalid EAN.
- How do I filter products by EAN codes in Mergado?
- By creating a query on the Products page, for example:
- EAN = “<specific number>”, or
- EAN contains “<specific number>”, or
- if you want to find products by multiple EAN codes, use the enumeration query.
- By creating a query on the Products page, for example:
- How do I find duplicate EAN codes?
- On the Elements page, in the value overview for the EAN element. Follow our guide on how to find duplicate values.
- Can I filter out products with duplicate EAN codes in Mergado?
- Yes. When importing into Mergado, set the matching elements to EAN only — products with duplicate EAN codes will then not be imported into Mergado. Mergado will remove them during input feed import.
What Mergado Audit checks for the EAN element#
- Whether EAN is missing or empty (no value) for any products.
- Whether EAN codes are unique and no duplicate values (i.e. the same EAN for multiple products) appear in the feed.
- Whether the EAN element contains any invalid value — letters, spaces, hyphens, and similar characters instead of a numeric code are not permitted.
- Whether the EAN element has the correct length.
