How to Create a New Campaign in PPC Wolf#

In PPC Wolf, you create a new campaign using a simple six-step wizard. Each campaign targets a single advertising platform (Google Ads or Sklik), which allows you to configure the specific properties of each platform individually.

Before launching the wizard, make sure you have set up connections between PPC Wolf and the advertising platforms on the Ad Systems page.

Campaign creation wizard#

In the PPC Wolf interface, click the Create new campaign button on the Campaigns page to launch the wizard.

1. Campaign settings#

In the first step, define the basic campaign settings.

  • Enter the Campaign name to identify the campaign.
  • Enter the Campaign start date.
  • Enter the Campaign end date.
  • Select the Advertising platform for which you are creating the campaign — Google Ads or Sklik.

→ For a Sklik campaign:

  • Enter the Daily budget.
  • Optionally, enter a Total budget.
  • Select the Campaign type (Search or Display).

→ For a Google Ads campaign:

  • You first need to create a shared budget and a bidding strategy directly in your Google Ads account. PPC Wolf cannot create these itself — it uses a budget and a bidding strategy already created and managed directly in Google Ads.
  • PPC Wolf for Google Ads supports Search campaigns only.

2. Data source#

In the second step, connect the extension to your data from Mergado.

  • Select the specific Project from Mergado Editor for which you want to create the campaign. The project does not have to be created exclusively for PPC Wolf, but this is recommended. Find out how to prepare a Mergado Editor project for PPC Wolf.
  • Choose the Product queries the campaign should cover (these queries must first be created in the relevant project in Mergado Editor).

3. Ad groups#

In the third step, define the campaign structure — the pattern for how individual ad groups should look. One item from the feed corresponds to one ad group.

  • In the Search and apply from existing campaign field, you can select a previously created template from which individual ad groups will be generated.

If you are not working from a pre-existing template:

  • Enter the Ad group name. Provide a pattern for how ad group names will be created. Use variables for this (for example %PRODUCTNAME% - %ITEM_ID%). PPC Wolf will then replace the variable with the actual value from the feed when generating the ad group.
  • Enter the Default cost per click (CPC).
  • On the right side you will see a preview of the generated ad groups. You can change the specific product shown in the preview.

4. Keywords#

In the fourth step, set the rules for generating keywords using variables.

  • In the Search and apply from existing campaign field, you can select a previously created template from which keywords will be generated.

If you are not working from a pre-existing template:

  • Keep each keyword on a separate line.
  • You can add any number of keywords.
  • For broad match, enter text or a variable without any modification. For example %PRODUCTNAME%. PPC Wolf will then generate a keyword for each ad group with the product name.
  • For phrase match, use quotation marks. For example “%PRODUCTNAME%”.
  • For exact match, use square brackets. For example [%PRODUCTNAME%].
  • If a variable contains multiple words separated by commas, check the Is a group option.

5. Ads#

In the fifth step, create text templates that will be displayed in individual ads in the target advertising platforms.

  • In the Search and apply from existing campaign field, you can select a previously created template from which ads will be generated.

If you are not working from a pre-existing template, fill in the individual fields that correspond to items in the Google Ads or Sklik admin, that is:

  • Destination URL
  • Headline templates
  • Description templates
  • Path templates

Use variables, plain text, or combinations of text and variables when filling in templates.

Example for a description template:

Description 1 – %G:DESCRIPTION%

Description 2 – Only %G:PRICE% and it is yours.

Alternative texts

For variables, you can also place a fallback text in square brackets that PPC Wolf will use if the variable’s value exceeds the allowed character limit. This way you avoid invalid items that would be rejected by the target advertising platform.

If there are multiple variables in the text, PPC Wolf tries to find a combination that fills in as many values as possible without exceeding the limit.

Square brackets can also contain an empty value, which can be useful for optional ad fields.

Example:

You have a description in the form:

We stock spare parts for %TITLE%. Free delivery and installation.

The notation with alternative text might look like this:

We stock spare parts for %TITLE%[electric kettles]. Free delivery and installation.

6. Review#

In the final sixth step, click Complete campaign creation wizard. Data processing and ad group creation will then take place in the background.

Launching the campaign#

You will find the created campaign on the Campaigns page. Click on it and on the Overview tab you will see its current status.

A newly created campaign is always in draft mode. This means it is not yet being sent to the target advertising platform.

Before launching the campaign, go to the Diagnostics tab. Check for any errors and resolve them.

Once you are satisfied with the result, return to the Overview tab. Use the relevant buttons there to first regenerate the campaign, then validate it, and finally click Send. The campaign will switch to production mode and the generated ad groups will start being sent to the target advertising platform.

FAQ#

How do I create a new campaign in PPC Wolf?#

Create a new campaign on the Campaigns page by clicking the Create new campaign button, which launches the six-step wizard. It will guide you through campaign settings, the data source, ad groups, keywords, ads, and the final review.

Can a single campaign advertise in both Google Ads and Sklik at the same time?#

No. Each campaign targets a single advertising platform — either Google Ads or Sklik. This allows each platform to be configured individually according to its specific properties.

What do I need to do before creating a campaign?#

Before launching the wizard, you must have connections between PPC Wolf and the advertising platforms you want to use set up on the Ad Systems page. Find out how to connect PPC Wolf and Sklik and how to connect PPC Wolf and Google Ads.

How do the campaign settings differ for Sklik and Google Ads?#

For Sklik, you enter a daily budget, optionally a total budget, and a campaign type (Search or Display). For Google Ads, you must have a shared budget and a bidding strategy prepared in advance in the Google Ads admin — PPC Wolf cannot create these itself. Google Ads also supports Search campaigns only.

Which project from Mergado should I use for the campaign?#

Select any project from Mergado Editor. The project does not have to be created exclusively for PPC Wolf, but this is recommended (find out how to prepare a Mergado Editor project for PPC Wolf). You also need to have product queries created in that project in advance for the products you want to advertise in the campaign.

What is an ad group and how is it generated?#

One ad group corresponds to one item from the feed. The pattern for generating ad groups is defined using templates and variables, for example %PRODUCTNAME% or %ITEM_ID%. PPC Wolf then automatically replaces variables with actual feed values for each item individually.

Can I base a new campaign on an existing one?#

Yes. In the steps for ad groups, keywords, and ads, you can use the Search and apply from existing campaign field to select a previously created template from another campaign, from which new ad groups, keywords, or ads will be generated.

How do I set different keyword match types?#

For broad match, enter the variable or text without any modification, for example %PRODUCTNAME%. For phrase match, use quotation marks, for example “%PRODUCTNAME%”. For exact match, use square brackets, for example [%PRODUCTNAME%]. Keep each keyword on a separate line and you can add as many as you like.

What does the “Is a group” option for keywords mean?#

Check this option when a variable contains multiple words separated by commas.

What are alternative texts in ad templates and what are they for?#

Alternative text is a fallback value that PPC Wolf uses instead of a variable’s value if that value would exceed the ad’s allowed character limit. It is written in square brackets immediately after the variable, for example %TITLE%[electric kettles]. This way you avoid invalid items that the advertising platform would reject.

Can I use an empty value as alternative text?#

Yes. Square brackets can contain an empty value, which is useful for optional ad fields.

Does the campaign start being sent to the advertising platform immediately after the wizard is completed?#

No. A newly created campaign is always in draft mode, so it is not yet sent to the advertising platform. Before launching it, we recommend checking for any errors on the Diagnostics tab, and then on the Overview tab first regenerating the campaign, validating it, and finally sending it to the target advertising platform.

How do I launch and send a campaign to the advertising platform?#

On the Overview tab of the created campaign, first regenerate it, then validate it, and finally click Send. The campaign will switch to production mode and ad groups will start being sent to the target advertising platform.

Should I review the campaign before launching it?#

Yes, we recommend it. Before sending the campaign to the advertising platform, go to the Diagnostics tab, where you will see any errors and invalid items. Fixing them will prevent unnecessary data rejections by the advertising platform.
