How to connect Icecat and Mergado Sources#
Connecting to the open Icecat catalogue lets you automatically fill in missing technical descriptions, parameters, or images for your products based on their EAN codes.
Catalogue coverage and data quality#
Data availability in the Icecat catalogue varies by sector. For example, in the electronics segment, coverage may be around 25 % of items, while in other sectors it may be lower or even zero.
Although the data is professional, we recommend editing long descriptions afterwards — for example using GPT — for better readability on your online store.

FAQ#
What do I need to connect Icecat to Mergado Sources?#
You need an account created at Icecat.com and the Mergado Sources extension activated for the relevant project in Mergado Editor.
Is an Icecat account free?#
Registration and a basic account are free. Some data in the catalogue is available for free, other data is part of a paid plan. You can try out the free data first and verify the coverage of your range directly in the catalogue.
Do I need an API key to connect?#
No, only your Icecat account username is required to connect.
What data can I import from Icecat into my feed?#
From the Icecat catalogue, you can fill in product name, main image, brand text name, brand logo, manufacturer’s product code, category, short description, long description, key features in bullet points, gallery images, and product line information.
How does Icecat search for products?#
Icecat searches for products based on their EAN/GTIN code. This value must be available in your project in Mergado Editor as an element.
In what languages is data available in Icecat?#
Data is available in various languages, including Czech and Slovak. You set the language in which you want data retrieved and saved directly when creating an element in Mergado Sources.
How do I know the connection to Icecat is working?#
On the Data sources tab in the Mergado Sources interface, you will see a green “Connection is active” status next to the Icecat source.
Why didn’t data appear right after the first regeneration?#
For data to appear in the project, you need to regenerate the project at least twice. On the first regeneration, Mergado Sources loads what data it needs to retrieve, and on the second it then writes the data to the elements.
I have thousands of products in my online store — will Icecat cover the entire range?#
Icecat catalogue coverage varies by sector. For example, in the electronics segment it may reach around 25 % of items, while in other sectors it may be significantly lower or even zero. We recommend verifying the coverage of your range directly on Icecat first.
I have Icecat data in my feed, but the descriptions are cumbersome — what can I do?#
Long technical descriptions from Icecat are professional but not always ideal for direct use in an online store. We recommend editing them afterwards — for example using the OpenAI (GPT) connection within the same Mergado Sources extension.
