Diagnostics#

The Diagnostics page serves as the main control center for your project in Feed Image Editor. It gives you an instant, comprehensive overview of the state of all product images in the data feed, based on the selected input element. The whole interface is split into four logical blocks that automatically sort findings by severity, so you know which issues need immediate action and which are simply recommendations for better performance.

Overview#

This block gives you a visual summary of the state of the entire project for the selected advertising channel (e.g. Facebook). The chart shows you the number of products with problematic images. You can download the overview as SVG, PNG, or CSV.

Issues#

The most critical section on the page. It collects serious technical errors that prevent product images from being shown to customers at all. These include:

  • Missing images – products that have no image URL filled in the data feed.

  • Unavailable images – image links that exist in the feed but can’t be downloaded for technical reasons (e.g. a broken link, a 404 error).

  • Unsupported format – the file format the URL points to isn’t one of the standard image formats. As a result, the images won’t display.

Warnings#

Flags limits on how your images are displayed where at least one of the listed warnings applies. These issues don’t block the file from being downloaded, but they can lead to your ads gradually being rejected or their performance getting worse. They include:

  • Invalid URL – product images may be rejected by comparison shopping engines if their URL is too long or contains characters that aren’t allowed under their criteria (e.g. diacritics or spaces).

  • Watermarks – if your product images contain watermarks for any reason, most advertising systems won’t display those products. You can use the Watermark removal feature to clean them up in bulk directly in the app and save your ads from rejection.

  • Alternative images – products have more alternative images than the comparison shopping engine allows. The extra images beyond the limit won’t be displayed.

  • Output format settings – the file format you chose in the first-time setup wizard for exporting images isn’t supported by the selected advertising channel. You can change the output format in Project settings.

  • Image background – platforms differ in their requirements for product image backgrounds. Many of them require a plain white background.

Recommendations#

Here you’ll find optimization tips to help improve the visual quality of your ads, increase click-through rate (CTR), and ensure full compliance. It tracks these parameters:

  • Product position, alignment, and size in the image – products should fill as much of the available space as possible and be centered. Otherwise they lose informational value and look inconsistent.

  • Image quality – flags blurry, pixelated, or too-small source images.

  • File size from an SEO perspective – keeps an eye on the optimal file size in kB for fast loading on the web and in ads. Feed Image Editor can bulk-compress these files, reduce their size, and speed up loading. You can easily set the level of bulk compression to reduce file size in Project settings, Automatic compression to size.

  • Color models – checks for the correct color model (sRGB). If your images use the CMYK color model, which is meant for print, they won’t display with the correct hues on computer and mobile screens.

  • Person in image – an overview of products where a person appears in the image.

  • Products with the same image – detects duplicate visuals.

  • Option to add alternative images – identifies products that only have a single image.

Quick actions#

Every row in every block (issues, warnings, recommendations) shows the exact number of affected products along with a set of action icons that let you resolve the problem right away:

  • Export – exports the list of affected products.

  • Show products – a quick link to the Products page, which instantly filters the exact list of items with that specific issue. Just save it as a query.

  • Hide products by filter – clicking this button hides all the selected products from your ads in bulk, preventing them from being shown on the advertising channel.

FAQ#

How often is the data on the Diagnostics page updated?#

With every regular regeneration of the feed in Mergado. This ensures you always see the current state of your ads.

What exactly do “Unavailable images” errors mean, and how do I fix them?#

This message means the image URL exists in the feed, but your online store’s server refused to serve it. This is most often caused by deleted files (404 error) or a temporary hosting outage. To fix it, check whether the images at those URLs load normally in a browser.

Why does Diagnostics recommend converting from CMYK to sRGB?#

The CMYK color model is used exclusively for print. If you send such an image to comparison shopping engines, monitors and phone displays can’t interpret the colors correctly. The images then show different hues than intended.

How can I resolve warnings about large images in bulk?#

You don’t need to edit anything manually in your online store. You can use Automatic compression to size on the Settings page, in the Project settings section. Feed Image Editor will then automatically reduce the file size of all images with no visible loss of quality.
