Reflection#
Reflection is a graphic effect in Feed Image Editor that adds a mirror reflection under the product, as if the product were resting on a glossy surface.
How it works#
The reflection effect is added as a layer in the graphic template. The extension generates the mirror reflection automatically based on the shape and bottom edge of the product. Processing runs in bulk across the whole product query.
Setting it up in the extension#
The reflection effect is set up in the Feed Image Editor graphic template. Available parameters:
-
Angle – the tilt of the reflection under the product.
-
Distance from the product (offset) – the gap between the bottom edge of the product and the start of the reflection.
-
Transparency – the intensity of the reflection, from a barely visible hint to a more pronounced effect.
When reflection comes in handy#
Reflection works best on products with a clean white background, where it emphasizes the visual cleanliness of the image. It brings the most benefit for segments where a premium impression is key:
-
Cosmetics and perfumes – glossy, elegant packaging naturally resonates with the reflection effect.
-
Jewelry and watches – reflection emphasizes the luxurious character of the product.
-
Electronics – clean product shots with a reflection match the established visual convention of the segment.
FAQ#
Does reflection work without a removed background?#
Yes. The effect can be added to an image with any background. It stands out best, however, after Background removal, where the product sits on a clean surface. Reflection then looks natural, without visual clashes with the original background.
Can reflection be combined with shadow and other effects?#
Yes. Effects are separate layers in the template. Combining them, however, can visually overload the image. We recommend using only one of them, unless the other actively helps the result.
Is reflection suitable for price comparison sites?#
Reflection is a visual effect on the product image and generally does not violate price comparison sites’ conditions. We still recommend checking the specific platform’s conditions. Some price comparison sites may have requirements on the minimum area of the product within the image, which Reflection reduces.
Does reflection change the output dimensions of the image?#
No. Reflection is added as a layer within the canvas, and the output format stays whatever is set in the template. If the product is placed low and the reflection extends past the bottom edge of the canvas, it will be cropped. We recommend shifting the product slightly higher or setting a smaller reflection height.
