Shadow#
Shadow is a graphic effect in Feed Image Editor that adds a cast shadow behind the product’s contours. The result visually separates the product from the background and gives it a slight 3D feel – the image looks more three-dimensional and less flat.
How it works#
The shadow effect is added as a layer in the graphic template. The extension generates the shadow automatically based on the shapes of the product. Processing runs in bulk across the whole product query.
Setting it up in the extension#
The Shadow effect is set up in the Feed Image Editor graphic template. Available parameters:
-
Shadow color – lets you choose any shade of shadow (most often black or gray).
-
Transparency – the intensity of the shadow, from a subtle hint to a pronounced shape.
-
Blur – the width of the shadow area around the product.
-
Angle – the direction in which the shadow falls behind the product.
When shadow comes in handy#
Shadow is most effective on products with a clean background – white or solid-colored – where the product would otherwise blend into the surface. The effect is universal and works across product ranges: electronics, furniture, fashion accessories, sports equipment.
On the other hand, for lifestyle photos set in an environment, an added shadow does not look right visually, and we do not recommend using it there.
FAQ#
Does shadow work without a removed background?#
Yes. Shadow can be added to an image with any background. It stands out best, however, on a clean, solid-colored background, ideally after prior Background removal, where the product has no distracting elements around it.
Can shadow be combined with the reflection effect?#
Yes. Both effects are separate layers in the template and can be used at the same time. The combination can look cluttered, so we recommend checking the result in the Previews and using only one of the effects if the other does not visually help the result.
Does shadow change the output dimensions of the image?#
No. Shadow is added as a layer within the canvas, and the output format stays whatever is set in the template. If the shadow is pronounced and the product is placed close to the edge, the shadow may be cropped. In that case, we recommend setting a smaller overflow width or shrinking the product slightly.
Can I set the shadow color?#
Yes. The shadow color can be customized freely.
Is shadow suitable for price comparison sites too?#
Yes. Unlike graphic labels or text, which most price comparison sites prohibit, Shadow is a purely visual effect on the product image and generally does not violate their conditions. We still recommend checking the specific platform’s conditions.
