Autocrop#

Autocrop is a Feed Image Editor feature that automatically centers the product in the image in bulk and stretches it to fill the whole output format. The result is a set of visually consistent images where the product is always centered, regardless of how it was positioned in the original image.

How it works#

The extension detects the product in the image, centers it, and resizes it to fill the entire selected output format. Processing runs in bulk across the whole feed or a chosen product query.

The feature gives the best results in combination with Background removal. Once the background is removed, the product cutout is centered precisely and evenly fills the whole format, without white margins or unbalanced placement.

Setting it up in the extension#

Autocrop is activated on tab 3 in the right panel when setting up a template. Once enabled, the product is automatically centered and stretched to the previously selected output format. For the best result, we also recommend enabling the Background removal feature. If you plan to add graphic layers to the template, we also recommend using the Overflow width feature afterwards.

Why it matters#

Centered product images are a requirement or recommendation of many advertising systems and marketplace platforms:

  • Google Shopping – centering the product is among the recommendations for product images.

  • Alza Trade – centering the product is a mandatory parameter.

Failing to meet these conditions can lead to images being rejected or to lower visibility of products in ads.

FAQ#

Do I need Background removal active for Autocrop to work?#

No. Autocrop works even without the Background removal feature. It centers and enlarges the whole image, including the original background. However, you get better results when combining it with Background removal. Once the background is removed, the cutout of the product itself is centered and evenly fills the format, producing a clean, professional result.

Can Autocrop crop the product?#

Autocrop centers the product and enlarges it to fill the whole format. It does not shrink the product or crop any part of it. If the product is placed significantly off-center in the original photo, the edges of the background may be slightly cropped. The product itself should remain intact.

Does Autocrop work when switching to a different aspect ratio, or only when enlarging?#

Autocrop works with the output format set in the template and fits the product to that format regardless of whether it involves a different aspect ratio or just enlargement. Any empty areas created by a change in aspect ratio (for example, with lifestyle images) can be filled in using Outpainting or Background settings.

Can Autocrop be used on only some of the products?#

Yes. The template is applied to a chosen product query, so Autocrop can be limited, for example, to a specific category or to products where Image Audit has detected improper alignment.

Does Autocrop change the URLs of the original images?#

Autocrop generates new output images stored under URLs generated by Feed Image Editor. In the output feed, products reference the edited versions of the images, not the originals.

Can Autocrop be combined with other edits in the template?#

Yes. Autocrop is part of the graphic template and can be combined with any other features and layers (adding a logo, graphic elements, price tags, or dynamic elements).
