Rules in Mergado Editor#

What are rules?#

Rules are one of the most important tools in Mergado Editor. Using specific rules, queries, and elements, you can modify data according to your needs or the requirements of comparison shopping engines, marketplaces, websites, supplier applications, or other platforms.

Rules are divided into four groups:

• Rules created by the Editor (e.g., Conversion Mergado XML [CZ] -> Heureka.cz – product [CZ])
• Extension rules (e.g., Bidding Fox - INPUT)
• User rules (e.g., Change color parameter)
• Manual changes rule

Different types of rules can be modified in different ways. For example, rules created by MERGADO cannot be copied — you can only delete them. On the other hand, user rules can be disabled, duplicated, or deleted.

What do I see on the Rules page?#

The Rules page can be divided into several sections:

1. Search Here you can search for rules by name, specific type, or the element they work with. You can also filter to show only active rules.

2. Rule list Here you can see the rules that are continuously applied in your project. Some rules are created by us or by applications.

3. Apply rules A button that allows you to change data only within the Editor. It does not regenerate data into the output feed.

4. New rule Use this button to create a new rule. If you already have a rule created in another project, you can import it using the option — import rule.

5. Rule editing options

• Reorder – Allows you to reorder rules. Note that order matters. See below.
• Disable – Disables a specific rule
• Edit – Opens the rule editor
• Duplicate – Copies the rule. The duplicate is placed below the original.
• Delete – Deletes the rule
• Schedule – Schedules the rule for a specific time

How to create a new rule?#

1. Enter a name
2. Select the rule type
3. Choose query/queries
4. Select the element to be modified
5. Enter the new content

Note: The rule form changes depending on the rule type. For example, the Rewrite rule looks different from the Data file import rule or the Set shipping rates rule. !|760x389

Mergado offers a wide range of rule types. The names indicate what you need to do with the given element or query. For example, if you need to hide a product because the supplier no longer provides it, use the Hide product rule. If you need to set up shipping, use the Set shipping rates rule.

Good to know#

Order#

The order of rules matters. Rules are applied from top to bottom. Each rule has a number indicating its position in the rule application sequence. This means you can also work with data that has already been modified by previous rules.

Extensions#

Extensions from the Mergado Store create rules. You cannot disable, edit, or duplicate these rules. You can only delete them. If you need to process data in an extension first and then work with it in the Editor, you can change the order of the extension’s rule.

Rules can be imported#

Rules can also be imported from another project. Using the Import rule button, a simple form lets you choose which online store and project you want to import from. This is useful when you already have a sophisticated rule created in another online store and don’t want to build it from scratch.

Applying rules#

Applying rules is only part of the full data regeneration process. Applying rules only changes the data within Mergado. The data will only appear in the output feed after a complete regeneration. Applying rules is useful, for example, when you need to check or test your modifications before actually generating the output feed.

Applying rules only to watched products#

Mergado also allows you to apply rules only to watched products. You can set up product watching in the product detail under the Rule walkthrough tab.

Once you do this, you can use the Apply rules option — Apply only to watched to apply rules only to watched products. This speeds up the review or testing process for a specific product when your feed contains a large number of products.

Schedule a rule#

You can also schedule a rule. The rule scheduler can be found in the Schedule section of each rule. The rule scheduler allows you to set times when a rule should be applied or when it should be skipped. For example, you can set a rule related to a time-limited discount campaign to be applied only within a specific date range (e.g., Black Friday or before Christmas), or simply over the weekend.

Summary#

Rules in Mergado represent a way to apply bulk modifications to products. Individual rules can be applied to all products in your feed, but much more often rules are used in combination with queries, which allow you to specify which products a particular rule should apply to.
