Rating from element#

The Rating from element layer is a dynamic layer in a Feed Image Editor graphic template that automatically inserts a visual representation of customer reviews (stars) along with the number of ratings into the product image. This layer’s content changes dynamically for each product based on data read directly from your feed. A single template thus covers your entire assortment without exception.

Ratings in creatives build instant trust, increase click-through rate (CTR), and give you a strong competitive edge at the key moment of the customer’s purchase decision.

How it works#

The extension reads values (average rating and total number of reviews) from the chosen feed elements and, based on them, renders the corresponding number of graphic symbols (stars) along with accompanying text. Each product thus gets the exact rating given by real customers. A prerequisite for this to work correctly is having review data stored in feed elements in Mergado. If you don’t have this data in your feed, you can simply use the Bidding Fox Elements extension, which automatically fills it in for you within the ecosystem.

Setting it up in the extension#

  1. In the graphic template, add a new layer.

  2. In the right panel, select the Rating from element layer type.

  3. Select the Element with rating – choose the element containing the product’s average rating (e.g. on a scale of 1 to 5, or a rating in %). If you’re using the Bidding Fox Elements extension, the values are in the BFE_S_H_PRODUCT_RATING element.

  4. Select the Element with rating count – choose the element that carries information about the total number of reviews. If you’re using the Bidding Fox Elements extension, the values are in the BFE_S_H_PRODUCT_RATING_COUNT element.

  5. Choose the Star symbol by clicking the desired star shape.

  6. In Show rating from, use the slider to set the minimum threshold (e.g. from 3 stars) above which the rating should be applied in creatives.

  7. You can also customize the Fill color of the stars themselves using an uploaded palette of colors or an exact HEX code. You can likewise adjust the font, font style, size, and color.

  8. Optionally, add the Reflection or Shadow effects. Then just save the template.

FAQ#

What happens if there’s no review data in the feed?#

The layer isn’t rendered for such a product, and the image remains without stars. Rating from element only displays for products that have valid data in the feed and also meet the limit set on the Show rating from slider. The template’s other layers will keep working normally.

What should we do if we want to get product ratings into the feed?#

Activate the Bidding Fox Elements extension in the Mergado Store. It automatically downloads review data from Heureka and adds it to your feed in the BFE_S_H_PRODUCT_RATING (average product rating) and BFE_S_H_PRODUCT_RATING_COUNT (number of ratings) elements.

Can I hide stars on products with a low rating?#

Yes. In the layer settings, use the Show rating from slider. For example, if you set it to 3, products with a rating below 3 will automatically not have this layer applied to their image.

Can the extension handle ratings expressed as a percentage?#

Yes. The layer works with the average product rating in %, and renders the stars correctly.
