What to do when your feed for Audit exceeds 256 MB#
Mergado Audit checks the technical accuracy and data quality of your feed. Currently, it can only process files up to 256 MB. If your feed exceeds this limit, the Audit won’t start and you’ll see the message: “Maximum allowed file size exceeded.” This guide explains why this happens and shows you proven methods to temporarily reduce or split your feed so you can run the Audit.
Step-by-step guide#
1) Split the feed into smaller parts#
If your infrastructure allows it, split the original feed into two smaller parts and check each one separately in the Audit.
Keep in mind:
- Each part of the feed must have a complete structure (header and closing tags) for the Audit to work correctly.
2) Temporarily reduce the feed by hiding some products in Mergado#
If splitting isn’t possible, reduce the data directly in Mergado.
How to do it:
1. Create a product query
- Go to Products and create a query for roughly half of the items.
- Choose criteria based on your feed structure — e.g. category, price range, or number in
ITEM_ID.
2. Apply a hiding rule
- Open Rules → New rule.
- Select Hide product as the rule type and apply it to the query you created.
3. Regenerate the feed
- Settings → Regeneration → Regenerate changed.
4. Run the Audit
- Run the Audit on this “reduced” output feed.
3) Additional ways to further reduce the size#
If the output feed still exceeds 256 MB, try:
-
Hide more products (expand the query, e.g. add more categories or brands).
-
Temporarily hide large elements, typically
DESCRIPTION.- Do this on the Elements page using the toggle on the right side.
Tip! Only hide elements temporarily for Audit purposes. After the check is done, turn them back on so the feed remains complete for export.
When to contact support#
Are you sure the feed is under 256 MB but the Audit still reports an error? Contact Mergado technical support — we’ll be happy to investigate.
FAQ#
Why can’t Mergado Audit process a feed larger than 256 MB?#
The current version of Audit has a 256 MB limit. Larger files cannot be checked and you’ll see the error “Maximum allowed file size exceeded.”
What should I do if my feed exceeds the limit?#
Either split the feed into smaller parts (each with a complete structure), or temporarily reduce it in Mergado by hiding some products or selected elements.
How do I temporarily hide some products?#
On the Products page, create a query (e.g. by categories, prices, or ITEM_ID). In Rules, create a New rule → Hide product and apply it to the query.
How do I hide specific elements (e.g. DESCRIPTION)?#
On the Elements page, use the toggle next to the element. Don’t forget to turn it back on after the Audit.
Do I need to regenerate the feed after making changes?#
Yes. Go to Settings → Regeneration → Regenerate changed, and only then run the Audit on the output feed.
When should I contact support?#
If the feed is under 256 MB but the Audit still reports a size limit error or another issue, contact Mergado technical support.
