Streamline Product Data with Mergado Master Feed#

Do you advertise the same products on multiple advertising platforms and want to avoid making the same edits and setting identical rules for each project over and over? Create one Master Feed and use it as the data source for all your individual projects. It lets you make shared changes in bulk, just once. You will save a lot of time and effort, and then only need to fine-tune each project for the specifics of its target advertising platform.

Master Feed serves as your central product data source. It is where you clean up, unify, and prepare your data so it becomes an ideal foundation for all the advertising platforms you use.

Why and When to Use Master Feed#

Master Feed makes your work easier whenever you want to send one product feed to multiple advertising platforms. In Mergado, this means you have several projects under one online store for different advertising platforms (e.g., Google, Facebook, Heureka, Zbozi, Glami, and others), and all of them use the same data source.

This shared data source can be the Master Feed. In it, you make adjustments and set rules that apply to all advertising platforms just once, without repeating the same tasks in each individual project. Simply create a new project under the same online store to serve as the Master Feed. Use your product data as the input (e.g., the product feed generated by your online store), and then use the output feed as the input feed for all other projects created for individual advertising platforms.

Examples of Master Feed Usage#

1. Inconsistent or Incomplete Product Feed Data#

Many advertising platforms have similar or identical requirements for what information individual elements should contain. For example, Heureka, Zbozi.cz, and Glami all require product names to include the manufacturer’s name. If your product feed is missing this information in the product name, you only need to set up one rule in the Master Feed to fix it, rather than configuring the rule separately in projects for Heureka, Zbozi, and Glami.

Similarly, almost all advertising platforms require or recommend having correctly filled-in EAN codes. You add or fix EANs just once in the Master Feed, and the codes automatically propagate to all platform-specific projects.

You can also use the Master Feed to bulk-add missing product parameters (sizes, colors, etc.) that are often required for certain product categories. This is typically the case for Heureka, Zbozi, GLAMI, FAVI, Biano, or Google Shopping.

2. Product Feed Contains Products You Do Not Want to Advertise#

Does your product feed include items you do not want to advertise on ad platforms (e.g., very cheap products, low-margin items, out-of-stock products, accessories, etc.)? Hide them once in the Master Feed, and the products will be hidden across all related projects.

3. Setting Shipping Rates for All Advertising Platforms at Once#

Set up carriers and shipping rates just once in the Master Feed, and the settings will apply across all related projects. If you want to add or remove carriers or change their prices in the future, you only need to make the change in the Master Feed.

How to Create a Master Feed#

  1. You create a Master Feed in Mergado the same way as any other project. Follow this guide.

  2. As the input feed, use a product feed that contains as much product information as possible (name, price, image, important parameters). This can be, for example, the product feed generated by your online store.

  3. As the output format, choose the same format as your input. (For example, if you used a product feed that your online store generates for Heureka as the input, also choose Heureka format as the output.)

  4. Give the project an appropriate name so you can immediately tell it is a Master Feed (e.g., your-shop.com – Master Feed).

  5. In the Master Feed, set up rules and make the general, foundational product data edits that should apply to all advertising systems you want to advertise on (e.g., adding manufacturers to product names or setting up shipping).

  6. Then (under the same online store) create individual projects for your chosen advertising platforms. For all of them, use the output feed from the Master Feed as the input feed. Set the output format based on the advertising platform each project is for. After that, just make platform-specific adjustments in each project as needed.

Mergado automatically evaluates how often data needs to be updated and regenerates (updates) data several times a day (usually within one to three hours). You do not need to worry about this process. However, if you want to see your changes in the feed immediately, you can regenerate data manually.

After making changes in the Master Feed, go to the Rules page, click Run processes manually, and then select Regenerate changed. Repeat the same steps for the related projects.

How to Check Which Projects Use Your Master Feed#

You can easily check which projects use the Master Feed as their input feed.

  1. In the project that is the Master Feed, go to the Settings page.
  2. Under General project settings – Basic information, click the down arrow next to the Output feed field.
  3. A list of projects that use the Master Feed as their input feed will appear. You can click through directly to any of them.

Similarly, you can verify whether a specific project uses a Master Feed as its input.

  1. In the project you want to check, go to the Settings page.
  2. Under General project settings – Basic information, click the down arrow next to the Input feed field.
  3. The project whose output feed you used as input here will appear. You can click through directly to that project (the Master Feed).

How Master Feed Affects Mergado Pricing#

Master Feed is an additional project, which means it increases the total number of output products for your online store. This may affect the price of using Mergado.

For example, if your product feed has over 3,000 items and you advertise on three different advertising platforms (meaning you have three different projects), you have around 9,000 output items total. This puts you in the Basic plan.

With a Master Feed, the number of output items increases to 12,000, which means moving to the higher Standard plan. Before implementing a Master Feed, keep in mind that it may affect the price of using Mergado.

Although Mergado costs may increase slightly, the investment pays off through enormous time savings and more efficient product feed management. More information about pricing is available in the article Changing the online store plan.

Conclusion#

Master Feed works as the “central base” for editing your product data. Instead of making the same edits for each advertising channel separately, you make them just once in the Master Feed, from where they automatically distribute to all related projects. This lets you focus on fine-tuning individual advertising platforms without wasting time on duplicate work. The result is time savings, cleaner data, fewer errors, faster workflows, and more room for strategy instead of routine.

Tip! We recommend implementing the Master Feed right at the start of your product data management, ideally before you begin creating individual related projects. This ensures a smooth data flow and minimizes the likelihood of errors and confusion between projects.*

FAQ#

What is Master Feed and what is it for?#

Master Feed is a central data source you use as the foundation for projects that share the same product data. It lets you edit shared data just once and then use the modified output as input for projects targeting individual advertising platforms (e.g., Heureka, Zbozi.cz, GLAMI, Facebook). This way, you avoid repeating the same edits in each project separately.

When does it make sense to use Master Feed?#

Master Feed is useful whenever you send the same product data to multiple advertising platforms. Typically when you have several projects under one online store (e.g., Heureka, Zbozi.cz, GLAMI, FAVI, Google Shopping) and all use the same input feed. Master Feed works well as one shared base where you make common edits just once.

How does Master Feed save me time and effort?#

All general and foundational edits are done in just one project – the Master Feed. You do not need to individually update names, parameters, EAN codes, or shipping settings in separate projects for each platform. Changes from the Master Feed automatically propagate to all related projects that use the Master Feed’s output as their input.

What types of edits should I make in the Master Feed?#

In the Master Feed, you set up rules and make edits that should be common across all advertising platforms. These include, for example:

  • adding manufacturers to product names,
  • fixing or adding EAN codes,
  • adding missing parameters (sizes, colors, etc.),
  • hiding products you do not want to advertise,
  • setting up carriers and shipping rates.

Why is it beneficial to make certain edits in the Master Feed?#

Because many advertising platforms have similar or identical requirements for product feeds. For example, Heureka, Zbozi.cz, and GLAMI require the manufacturer name in product titles, and most platforms recommend or require correctly filled-in EAN codes. With Master Feed, you add or fix this information just once, and the changes automatically reach all related projects.

Can I hide products I do not want to advertise in the Master Feed?#

Yes. If your product feed includes items you do not want to advertise (e.g., very cheap products, accessories, very low-margin items, or out-of-stock products), you can hide them in bulk in the Master Feed. The hiding will then apply across all connected projects.

Can I set shipping rates for all platforms at once in the Master Feed?#

Yes. You set up carriers and shipping rates in the Master Feed just once. The settings apply across all linked projects. If shipping rates change in the future, you only need to update them in the Master Feed.

How do I create a Master Feed in Mergado?#

You create a Master Feed just like any other project:

  1. Create a new project in Mergado.
  2. Use a product feed containing as much product information as possible (e.g., a product feed generated directly by your online store) as the input.
  3. Choose the same format as your input for the output.
  4. Give the project a name that makes it easy to distinguish from other platform-specific projects (e.g., “your-shop.com – Master Feed”).
  5. Set up rules and make general edits that are common across all platforms you want to advertise on.
  6. Then create individual projects for specific advertising platforms and use the Master Feed’s output feed as their input.

Do I still need to configure anything in the platform-specific projects?#

Yes. In those projects, you only make edits specific to the given platform, such as category mapping or element adjustments according to the particular system’s requirements. General edits are already done in the Master Feed.

How quickly do Master Feed changes appear in other projects?#

Mergado regenerates (updates) data automatically several times a day. However, if you want changes to appear immediately after editing the Master Feed, you can regenerate data manually:

  1. In the Master Feed, go to the Rules page.
  2. Click Run processes manually.
  3. Select Regenerate changed.
  4. Repeat the same steps in the connected projects.

How do I find out which projects use the Master Feed as their input?#

In the Master Feed project:

  1. Go to the Settings page.
  2. Under General project settings – Basic information, click the down arrow next to the Output feed field.
  3. A list of all projects that use the Master Feed as their input will appear. You can click through directly to individual projects.

How do I verify that a specific project uses data from the Master Feed as its input?#

In the specific project:

  1. Go to the Settings page.
  2. Under General project settings – Basic information, click the down arrow next to the Input feed field.
  3. The project whose output feed is used as the input feed here will appear.

Does Master Feed affect the price of using Mergado?#

Yes, it may affect the final price. Master Feed represents an additional project that increases the total number of output items for your online store. The total output item count determines the price of using Mergado.

Example:

  • If your product feed has approximately 3,000 items and you have three projects in Mergado (for three different advertising platforms), you have around 9,000 output items total (Basic plan).
  • Adding a Master Feed increases the count by another 3,000 items, bringing the total to approximately 12,000 output items, which means moving to the higher Standard plan.

Before implementing a Master Feed, check your total output item count.

When is the best time to create a Master Feed?#

Ideally right at the start of your product data management – before you begin creating individual projects for advertising platforms. This ensures a smooth data flow and minimizes the risk of errors.

What is the main benefit of Master Feed?#

Master Feed lets you make routine data edits just once, centrally and efficiently. This saves you an enormous amount of time that you would otherwise spend repeating the same operations across individual projects. It also significantly reduces the risk of errors that often arise from manual, duplicate work. Fewer errors ultimately mean advertising cost savings as well, because you prevent shortcomings that could negatively affect campaign performance. With Master Feed, you can focus on strategy and fine-tuning details instead of technical routine.
