FAQ#

What is the Letter Case Converter rule for?#

The rule allows you to unify text formatting in any feed element. It can be used, for example, for:

  • fixing product names written in ALL CAPS,
  • converting description texts to lowercase,
  • unifying the format of parameters or brands,
  • preparing texts for further use (e.g., in the “Overwrite” rule).

What letter case options can I choose?#

In the “Letter case” field, you can select one of these 6 options:

  1. all lowercase – e.g., nike air zoom,
  2. ALL UPPERCASE – e.g., NIKE AIR ZOOM,
  3. Capitalize the first letter of sentences – e.g., Nike air zoom is a popular model.,
  4. Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word – e.g., Nike Air Zoom Pegasus,
  5. Capitalize first letter, keep the rest – preserves the original format after the first letter,
  6. Capitalize only the first letter of words with more than two characters – suitable for correcting texts with excessive capitalization.

Can I use this rule to fix names written entirely in uppercase?#

Yes. Simply select “Capitalize the first letter of sentences” or “Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word” in the “Letter case” field. Mergado will automatically convert the texts to a normal readable format (e.g., ADIDAS WHITE SNEAKERSAdidas white sneakers).

Can the rule be applied to product parameters?#

Yes. In the “Element” field, select PARAM | PARAM_VALUE. This allows you to change the format of parameter names in bulk, which you can then easily add to product names using the “Rewrite” rule.

Does the letter case change also affect values like EAN or product ID?#

No. The rule does not change numeric values or codes, only text strings. Using it on fields containing identifiers (e.g., EAN, SKU, ID) is not recommended.

Can I apply the rule only to part of the text (e.g., the first word)?#

Not directly. The rule changes the letter case across the entire element content. If you need to change the case of only part of the text, split the data into multiple elements or use the “Find and replace” rule with regular expressions.

What if I need different letter case formats for different product queries?#

Create multiple “Letter Case Converter” rules and apply each to a different Product query. E.g.:

  • for brands: Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word,
  • for descriptions: all lowercase.

Can the rule be used for SEO optimization (e.g., unifying brands)?#

Yes. Using this rule, you can unify the format of brands, names, or categories, which contributes to data consistency in exports and better product indexing in search engines.

How do I check if the rule was applied correctly?#

After saving and applying the rules or after regenerating the feed, check the result:

  • in the product preview, or
  • using the Rule walkthrough feature, where you can see exactly how the text changed.

Can the rule be combined with other rules?#

Yes, it is very often used together with:

  • Rewrite – for adding reformatted parameters to names,
  • Find and replace – for removing unnecessary parts before the modification,
  • Truncate value – for subsequently trimming text to the required length.
