Changing permissions for an online store#
Do you have an online store in Mergado but need someone else to make changes in it (e.g. an employee or agency)? Or are you a freelancer or agency managing an online store for a client who also wants access? Maybe they don’t want to edit anything but just wants to occasionally check how the feeds look? Does your manager or business partner want to see what’s happening in the online store while making sure they don’t accidentally change any settings?
All these situations can be resolved by giving other users access to the online store in whatever form works best for you and them. You simply grant them one of the available Permissions. The only requirement is that these people or entities have their own Mergado accounts, which are free.
What types of permissions are available in Mergado#
Mergado has three permission levels that give you different levels of control over individual online stores:
1. Owner
- Billing for selected services is charged to this user/entity for the specific online store. Has full access to editing billing details, payment frequency, and invoices.
- Can add/remove permissions (Write/Read) for other users or entities for the online store.
- Can transfer the Owner role to another user. (At that point, they automatically receive the Write role and lose the permissions listed above.)
- Can edit online store content.
- Each online store can have only one Owner.
2. Write
- Can edit content of the online store for which the Owner has granted them Write access.
- Doesn’t have access to billing details and invoices.
- Cannot add or remove user permissions for the online store and can only see themselves and the owner.
- Any number of users with Write permission can be added to a single online store.
3. Read
- Has access to view the online store but cannot make any changes.
- Any number of users with Read permission can be added to a single online store.
How to add or remove permissions for other users (Write/Read)#
When you create an online store in your account, you automatically become its Owner. Invoices for the services you use will come to you, you can edit billing details, and you have all the permissions listed above.
If you want to give other people access to a selected online store, first make sure they have their own Mergado account.
- In Mergado, click the arrow icon in the top right corner of the page (next to your username) and go to the User details page.
- Here you’ll find the list of your online stores. Click the three-person icon next to the selected online store, which will take you to the User permissions section.
- On the right side of the page, in the Invite user section, enter the email of the user you want to grant permission to. Below that, select the permission you want to grant (Write/Read) and click Send invitation.
- The user will receive the invitation by email. They are redirected to their Mergado account via the link in the email and receive the permission once they accept the invitation in Mergado. If they don’t accept, they won’t get the permission.
- On this page (User permissions), you’ll also see a list of all users you’ve granted permissions to for the selected online store. You can change their permissions by clicking the pencil icon or remove them by clicking the trash icon.
Similarly, other users can grant you permissions to their online stores. You can see a list of all online stores you have any type of permission for in the User details section of your Mergado account.
How to change the online store Owner#
You become an online store Owner by creating an online store in your account. Or by having another user transfer this permission to you and you accepting it.
As the Owner, billing for selected services is charged to you for the specific online store. You have full access to editing billing details, payment frequency, and all invoices. You can add or remove permissions (Write/Read) for other users or entities, and you can edit online store content.
If you decide to transfer online store Ownership to another user or entity, the process is similar to granting Write or Read permissions.
The difference is that each online store can have only one Owner. The transfer process works as follows: you grant the Owner permission to another user. This user receives an email invitation. They are redirected to their Mergado account via the link in the email, where they must accept the invitation. At that point, you lose the Owner permission (and all associated privileges) and are automatically granted Write permission for the online store (you can edit online store content but paid services for this online store are no longer billed to you).
How to transfer the online store Owner#
Make sure the user you want to transfer the Owner permission to already has a Mergado account.
- In Mergado, click the arrow icon in the top right corner of the page (next to your username) and go to the User details page.
- Here you’ll find the list of your online stores. Click the three-person icon next to the selected online store, which will take you to the User permissions section.
- On the right side of the page, in the Invite user section, enter the email of the user you want to grant the permission to. Below that, select the Owner permission and click Send invitation.
- The user receives the invitation by email and is redirected to their Mergado account. They receive the permission once they accept the invitation. If they don’t accept, they won’t get the permission.
- After accepting the invitation, the user becomes the online store Owner. Your permission automatically changes to Write. From this point, paid services for this online store are billed to the new Owner, and you no longer have access to their billing details and invoices.
How to use permissions when working in Mergado#
You might want to grant or have Write permission for these reasons:
- I’m the owner and Owner of the online store, I pay Mergado invoices, but an employee or external agency/freelancer manages my advertising — I grant them Write permission.
- I’m the owner of the online store, but its management (including billing) is handled by an external agency, yet I still want to be able to edit the online store. The agency has the Owner permission and I keep Write.
- I’m not the owner or Owner of the online store (and thus don’t pay Mergado invoices), but I’m an employee or external agency/freelancer managing the client’s feeds. I have Write permission.
You might want to grant or have Read permission for these reasons:
- I’m the owner of the online store, but an external agency fully handles its management (editing and billing). I want to see what’s happening in the online store but don’t want to make any changes, or want to avoid accidentally editing something. The agency has the Owner permission, I have Read.
- I’m the owner of the online store, but my business partner or associate wants to be able to see what’s happening — they get Read permission.
You might want to grant or have Owner permission for these reasons:
- I’m the owner of the online store and want full control including billing, feed editing, and granting Write or Read permissions to other users. Even if an employee or external agency/freelancer manages my feeds — I grant them Write in that case.
- I’m an external agency or freelancer billing my client for complete online store management including the Mergado fee. I’m the Owner of the online store and grant the client Write or Read permission as needed.

You can find this information on the User permissions page. Go there by clicking the arrow icon in the top right corner in your account, then navigating to User details. You’ll see a list of online stores you own. Click the three-person icon next to the selected online store to go to the User permissions page. There you’ll see a list of all users with Write or Read access to the online store. You can change or remove their permissions at any time.
Does everyone I want to give access to need their own Mergado account?#
Yes, each user must have their own Mergado account. Registration is free.
How many users can have access to an online store?#
The number of users with Write or Read permission is unlimited. The only restriction is the Owner role — there can always be only one.
Can I change or remove permissions I’ve granted to a user?#
If you’re the online store Owner, yes. In the User permissions section, you can change the permission type (e.g. from Read to Write) or revoke access entirely at any time. If you have Write permission for an online store, you cannot add or remove permissions for other users, even if you were previously the Owner of that online store.
Can someone else grant me access to their online store?#
Yes, the Owner of another online store can grant you access. The requirement is that you’re a registered Mergado user. When the Owner grants you permission, you’ll receive an email invitation, and via the link you’ll be redirected to your account where you accept. All online stores you have access to will be visible in the User details section.
How do I accept a permission that an online store Owner granted me?#
If an online store Owner grants you a permission (Write, Read, or Owner), you’ll receive an email invitation from Mergado. Via the link in the email, you’ll go to your Mergado account where you confirm the invitation and the permission becomes active. If you don’t confirm the invitation, you won’t get access to the online store. After accepting, you’ll see the online store in your project overview and on the User details page.
Can multiple people manage a single online store in Mergado?#
Yes. Each online store can have one Owner, whose billing details are used for invoicing. Additionally, an unlimited number of users with Write or Read permissions can access the online store, granted (or revoked) by the Owner. Other users manage or view the online store from their own accounts.
When should I grant Write permission?#
When you want someone else to be able to edit online store content (e.g. an employee, external agency, or freelancer) but don’t want to give them access to billing. Write permission is also ideal when you’re the owner and want to edit the online store but don’t want to deal with billing, which someone else handles.
When is Read permission appropriate?#
When you want someone to have view-only access to the online store without being able to change anything. Useful for business partners, managers, or owners who want an overview but want to avoid accidental edits.
When do I need Owner permission?#
When you want full control over the online store, including billing, payment settings, and access management. Owner permission is also used when, for example, an agency fully manages the online store and their client billing includes the Mergado fees.
